How To Use URL Shorteners On WordPress

URL shorteners are all the rage.  Heck, even Google just launched one.

But using URL shortners has downside.  What happens if your URL shortnener goes out of business or their website goes down?  Yep, that’s right, your shortened URLs now longer work.  All that hard work in getting you URLs out there has been wasted.

Another thought is backlinks to your website are important for SEO purposes.  If you’re using a third party URL shortener, the shortener is getting all the backlinks, not your site.

There’s a better way.

How To Use URL Shorteners On WordPress:

Make your own URL shortener using your domain!  And it’s as simple as adding the plug-in Pretty Link to your WordPress site.  With Pretty Link, you can make any long URLs shorter using your own domain.

You can still track clicks and redirection types with Pretty Link.

What are you waiting for?  Go to your plugins page, click add new, and search for and install Pretty Link.  Give yourself the backlink credit.

Don’t have a WordPress based blog/website and want one?  Get BlueHost Blog Provider, which has an amazingly simple 1-click WordPress install set-up.  Get your website/blog up in minutes.

I have a question, how do I use the [url] tags properly in forums and such? I am having a difficult time in finding a lot of help, even though I know it is a really simple answer. I am just a little unclear on the syntax.
